Therefore, psychological ownership makes a difference because possessive feelings toward the organisation (psychological ownership) lead to an increase in organisational commitment; committed employees will engage in extra-role behaviour; and extra-role behaviour will contribute to higher performance. Prior research has demonstrated a relationship between extra-role behaviour and performance. Organisations that value organisational commitment and extra-role behaviour may want to increase the incidence of these behaviours by increasing psychological ownership.
